If you’re comparing MBTI and Insights Discovery, you’re exactly in the right place.
Both are built on Carl Jung’s psychological type – the idea that we each have natural preferences in how we think, decide, and interact. But while they share the same roots, they’ve grown in very different directions.
At CareerVision.ie, we respect MBTI for what it is: a classic, well-established model that has helped many start their journey toward self-awareness. It’s a brilliant framework for reflection and personal insight.
However, in today’s fast-paced, hybrid, and high-pressure workplaces, people need something they can learn quickly, remember easily, and apply immediately—not a theory they forget after training.
That’s where Insights Discovery comes in.
Insights Discovery is a psychometric/behavioural profiling tool based on Jungian psychology. It uses a four-colour “colour energy” model – 🔴 Fiery Red, 🟡 Sunshine Yellow, 🟢 Earth Green, and 🔵 Cool Blue to describe people’s behavioural preferences.
These colours describe how we tend to show up and interact with others, offering a language that’s visual, memorable, and instantly usable. This helps individuals understand their unique personality traits and resulting interactions.
We have effectively used Insights Discovery to empower leaders and teams to unlock their full potential and achieve better performance.
Unlike MBTI, which categorizes individuals into one of 16 x 4 letter fixed types (see sample ISTJ below), Insights Discovery sees personality as a spectrum of preferences. You’re a blend of all four energies, in different intensities. The tool explores not just your dominant energy but also your conscious persona (the self you choose to show), your less-conscious persona (the preferences behind the scenes), and your preference flow – how your energy shifts and adapts when circumstances change.
This makes Insights Discovery both dynamic and humane. It doesn’t box you in; it shows how you move. It acknowledges that we can stretch, flex, and adapt our behaviour without losing authenticity.
Where MBTI offers deep theoretical understanding, Insights Discovery turns that understanding into action. It’s designed for the modern workplace — helping teams to communicate better, resolve conflict faster, and lead with awareness. It’s accessible, practical, and ethical – because in busy organisations, we’re not trying to create Jungian psychologists; we’re giving people a shared colour language for working well together.
Both models honour Jung, but Insights Discovery brings his ideas to life in colour – making self-awareness something people can see, share, and use every day.

Yes, Insights Discovery profiles can shift slightly over time. The tool measures your behavioural preferences, which usually stay consistent, but life experiences, career changes, and new responsibilities can influence how you show up at work.
We encourage revisiting your profile every couple of years to reflect on any changes and to get fresh insights into your personal growth and evolving communication style.
An Insights Discovery profile is a personalised guide that explains your working style using the four-colour energy model: Fiery Red, Sunshine Yellow, Earth Green, and Cool Blue. It typically includes your dominant colour energies, strengths, potential blind spots, communication preferences, and suggestions for development.
Some profiles also feature sections on decision-making, management style, and strategies for building stronger relationships with colleagues.
Teams use Insights Discovery as a shared language to better understand one another’s styles. By recognising each person’s colour energy preferences, team members learn how to adapt their approach, reduce misunderstandings, and play to each other’s strengths.
For example, those leading with detail-focused “Cool Blue” may need more facts and structure, while those leading with “Sunshine Yellow” may respond best to idea generation and collaboration. This awareness helps teams communicate more clearly, resolve conflicts faster, and build stronger trust.
Growth doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens when individuals, teams and leaders all move forward together. That’s why our programmes focus on every level of an organisation – building individual capability, strengthening team relationships, enabling leaders to role-model performance behaviours, and guiding culture in critical moments of change or growth. Every programme we develop is tailored to the unique needs of your organisation, designed to enhance communication, unlock potential and deliver measurable impact where it matters most.
We are not here to tick a box or deliver an off-the-shelf programme. Our purpose is to open minds, shift thinking, and help leaders and teams see new possibilities. With deep industry experience and a human approach, our coaches and facilitators challenge and support in equal measure creating the conditions for growth and delivering lasting impact for people and performance.
