Career Counselling

The aim of career counselling in an organisational setting is to enhance role performance and job satisfaction by connecting people with their passion, purpose, values and other critical aspects of their ideal work. It also equips employees with career management skills that can be used throughout life.

The Counsellor’s responsibility is to:

  • Discover, clarify, and align with what the employee wants to achieve in terms of a career within the organisation
  • Encourage client self –discovery e.g. strengths, values, blindspots, etc.
  • Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies that meet personal and business/organisational goals
  • Hold the employee responsible and accountable for managing their own career
  • Keep direct manager and HR Manager informed of progress

The Employee/Client’s responsibility is to:

  • Fully engage in the process voluntarily and in a frank and open manner
  • Complete all assessments and between coaching assignments in a timely and comprehensive manner
  • Regularly update manager on progress, inhibitors, etc

The Manager’s responsibility is to:

  • Manage, motivate and coach the employee on a day to day basis to achieve business goals
  • Follow up with employee after career counselling sessions to better understand individual motivations, strengths, etc. and adapt management style as appropriate
  • Facilitate employee growth and development by providing opportunities and removing obstacles


The desired outcomes of career coaching include:

  • Enhanced employee performance and motivation leading to
  • Enhanced team and organisational performance
  • Active career self-management by the employee
  • Overall betterment of employee’s quality of life and work satisfaction
