Outplacement

Career Vision managed the outplacement for a large MNC which closed a number of distribution depots and Finance Departments over a 13 month period. Our role was to ensure that the displaced employees would leave the company prepared for the difficult job market that was ahead of them. In order to do this, we ran 2 day group workshops for the majority of the participants and included a Resource Room Facility on the larger sites where employees could access information and advice. Not only were employees the main focus, but also managers, who were involved in this programme.

The essence of the programme was to develop confidence. By increasing self awareness, understanding personality, interests and values we were able to increase personal confidence and help people move through the difficult transition curve. Each person left with a top class c.v. and interview skills which would carry them forward.

We had to rethink our programme before we started due to the climate of the labour market. Before this there was a time that one could expect to be re-employed within 3 months. Now, this could be up to one year. We added a module of Networking which we soon discovered was something that some people did very naturally and successfully! We also supplied a detailed and tailored course manual so that people would have their notes and learned techniques for review whenever they needed them.

One year on and we have started to review how our participants are getting on. We have completed the one year review for some of the nationwide locations. In the north of the country the re-employment rate has been a staggering 69% while in another area, between re-employment and return to education, it is 56%.

Learning of participants whose lives have moved on in a very positive way really makes this type of work so worthwhile!
