Twitter to set up shop in Dublin
The social networking company Twitter is to establish an international office in Ireland, IDA Ireland has announced.
IDA chief executive Barry O'Leary said Twitter's decision to locate in Dublin would be a fantastic addition to Ireland's digital media cluster. The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton welcomed the announcement which he said was a massive win for Ireland. He said it showed that, despite our difficulties, Ireland has real strengths as an economy.
He said there had been no indication yet as to the number of jobs that would be created. But he said other companies such as Facebook and Google had started off small here, before growing rapidly. He said Ireland's tax regime and flexible systems were well recognised internationally.
The announcement was made by IDA Ireland this morning in an early morning Tweet.
