What am I Qualified to do?
I'm currently completing my MRes (Masters in Research). I will be finished in September and I'm beginning to feel a little nervous about job hunting. I have decided to take a year out before applying for phd so basically I'm asking what am I qualified to do? I know that probably sounds ridiculous but I'm really unsure. I have a BA honours degree in international politics and am nearly finished my MRes. My areas of interest are gender and equality, my MRes project is about theories of masculinity and links to violence. What kind of jobs does this qualify me for.
You’d be able to look at roles in Social Policy, perhaps in an area that interests you, e.g. equality action groups, charities that deal with violence etc or community bodies in your interest space. They would usually have people in SP roles, often part time. You could also work directly in social research, e.g. with ESRI, or social organisations that need to advance their knowledge in particular areas. You should use keywords that you have an interest in for your job search on jobs website, i.e. research, social, politics, gender, equality etc, and see what comes up. You’d also be good in an admin role for any of these types of organisations – then you can work your way into the research or social policy end as they begin to see how you can add value.
Hope that helps,
Good luck.
