I want to move to a Supervisory/Management role

I have been working in manufacturing for over 15 years and would now like to do a course that would help me move into a supervisory/ management role. Can you please tell me what courses I should be looking at. I have already completed a diploma in first line management but I would like to look at other courses with a more recognised qualification.

You can find details of all courses offered in Ireland on www.qualifax.ie

You probably need to locate courses in ‘supervisory management’, and these are run in a lot of educational establishments across the country. You need to ensure that you do one with a FETAC accreditation attached to it, so employers can be certain of its standard when they see it mentioned on your CV.

Most Institutes of Technology run one such course at Level 6 (FETAC). Private colleges (Dorset, Dun Laoghaire, Ormond Business School), and private training organisations (Lir Business Training, Bayford Training etc) also provide versions. The cost to do it privately will be around 500 – 1000 Euros. With a distance learning version, you can start at any time of year and work at your own pace – or you can opt for a classroom based course if you would feel more comfortable working with a face to face group.

Effectively this level of qualification is like a Higher Certificate or a Diploma, so it will stand to you. FAS also run this course in the evenings at most training centres, which can be free of charge, but it does not carry a FETAC accreditation.

Good luck in finding a course that meets your needs.
