I'm stuck in a rut. I want to get into more of a marketing role.
I’ve been working in sales for over three years and while I’ve got great experience down through the years, I don’t like my career and really need a change. I don’t find my job rewarding anymore and dread going to work. I feel like I’m stuck in a rut and there’s no way out. I want to get into more of a marketing role but with sales experience of three years, that’s all people look at when they see my CV. What is the best way for me to successfully move into marketing? Do I need to do another course?
Doing a course of study can really help in terms of career confidence – effectively learning helps you build up your positivity in yourself whilst also helping you grow in a professional field – preferably one that you’re passionate about!
You could usefully turn to the professional marketing qualifications run by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, starting with the Certificate and then moving on to the Diploma. You can do these via home learning in your own time, and attend revision courses just before exam time.
To get into Marketing roles, a qualification is well regarded, and you can also bring your sales experience to bear – you’ve been promoting and communicating effectively regarding products and services all the time you’ve been selling - that’s all marketing is – identifying and meeting customer needs profitably – so sales is a good place to start.
Research the courses, work out which suits you best and apply for your place. It would also help to get some professional career help to draft out a career path for yourself whilst you put all this personal investment into learning. Good luck.
