How to Get Essential Work Experience

I have recently completed an MSc in Computing (Information Systems Processes), I have a degree BSc (Hons) in Commercial Software Development and a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Information Technology. I have no practical working experience except for 2 weeks office work in 2006. I currently live in Waterford am unemployed and struggling to find a job.  I cant really afford to move up the country to find work.  Do you have any advice?

You should maybe consider the Work Placement programme that FAS are running. They are likely to have some openings in IT.

If you go to the FAS website and look up WPP roles, South East and IT, they currently have 4/5 roles up there.

It’s a really good way to get experience. They usually offer 9 months work experience, during which you can collect your normal social welfare entitlements. Then you can move on from there into a paid role which requires experience – again, there are some such roles on the FAS website.
