How can I control my Body Language in an Interview
I have serious trouble controlling my body language and reactions in interviews. Even though I am prepared and know my stuff, my throat gets really dry and my voice goes all shaky, my hands even get a bit shaky too and I have made a fool of myself dropping all my papers and the like. It's not like I feel like I can't cope with an interview, and I'm normally quite confident with people. Can you give me some tips on keeping it together?
You should try to get some interview practice with a professional career coach or an interview trainer. If you can manage to find a group that’s doing interview training (they run a lot of these courses within FAS), then you can get some really good and practical experience to help you perform better at interview. Try to practice your answers to interview questions in front of the mirror and watch your body language – you’ll be able to see your own movements and judge how they look. Once you become conscious of them, the next stage is to redirect that energy, for example from shaking hands into a stronger and/or tone varying voice. For a dry throat, try rubbing your tongue around the inside of your teeth. That generates saliva instantly and keeps your mouth moist, ready for talking out your great answers.
Good luck with the next interview.
